An intermediate course that focuses on student learning of production welding techniques by applying the Gas Metal Arc, Flux Cored Arc, and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding processes on large parts in accordance with drawings.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Students will become familiar with techniques used in the welding and fabrication of large parts directly from shop drawings.
    1. Produce weldments from shop drawings
    2. Prepare materials needed to complete competencies
    3. Assemble safe work platforms
    4. Weld according to drawings
    5. Assess acceptability of parts produced to industry codes
Course Content Outline
Using weld process called out in the drawings:
  • Prepare components as directed in work instructions
  • Fit and weld components from elevated work platforms
  • Apply correct tack welding practices
  • Weld assemblies in accordance with designated standards
  • Develop methods for restricted access welding locations
  • Inspect for acceptability
Department Guidelines

Grades will be calculated as follows:
50% Based on completing all course competencies.
50% Based on Lab Participation, Cleanup on a daily basis, and following ALL Safety rules.
