Practical application in the clinical setting of nursing theory and skills taught in previous nursing courses and introduced in NUR 210 and NUR 235. Practicum focuses on advanced nursing care to a variety of patients, in various settings, and throughout all stages of the lifespan.
Prerequisites
Admission to the Level II ADN Program.
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:
- Examine physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual assessment data on patients/clients across the lifespan. (POC.1)
- Utilize assessment data to identify and implement patient/client and family-specific learning needs. (POC.2)
- Implement culturally sensitive care to patients across the lifespan. (POC.1)
- Apply nursing skills in a safe and effective manner, while caring for patients/clients with higher acuity needs. (POC.1)
- Utilize critical thinking in making clinical judgments for patients with complex conditions, while delivering safe and effective care. (MOC)
- Examine principles of delegation in the Registered Nurse role. (P.1)
- Apply appropriate channels of communication within an agency to assist with interactive communication. (C, P.2)
IO1 Communication: Students will be able to communicate effectively to deliver relevant, accurate and complete information to patients, families, and the healthcare team.
IO2 Quantitative Reasoning: Students will be able to reason mathematically using methods appropriate to the profession.
