NUR 211: Advanced Nursing Practicum I

Practical application in the clinical setting of nursing theory and skills taught in previous nursing courses and introduced in NUR 210 and NUR 235. Practicum focuses on advanced nursing care to a variety of patients, in various settings, and throughout all stages of the lifespan.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Examine physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual assessment data on patients/clients across the lifespan. (POC.1)
  2. Utilize assessment data to identify and implement patient/client and family-specific learning needs. (POC.2)
  3. Implement culturally sensitive care to patients across the lifespan. (POC.1)
  4. Apply nursing skills in a safe and effective manner, while caring for patients/clients with higher acuity needs. (POC.1)
  5. Utilize critical thinking in making clinical judgments for patients with complex conditions, while delivering safe and effective care. (MOC)
  6. Examine principles of delegation in the Registered Nurse role. (P.1)
  7. Apply appropriate channels of communication within an agency to assist with interactive communication. (C, P.2)

Additionally, a Dosage Calculation Exam must be passed each quarter with a score of 90% or greater to continue in the program. A student may retake this exam one time only. The Dosage Calculation Exam score is not included in the “Unit Tests” grade.

Assess PO5 Plan, initiate, and evaluate patient teaching including assessment of current knowledge, use of appropriate materials and techniques.

PO6 Demonstrate clinical decision-making from a theoretical knowledge base utilizing the nursing process to develop patient care plans that ensure safe, effective care in a variety of settings.
