MA 116: Clinical Procedures II

This course builds upon knowledge and skills acquired during Clinical Procedures I. The students will investigate different specialty practices, phlebotomy and the clinical laboratory, and medical abbreviations.

Prerequisites

Minimum final grade of 2.0 in MA 115 and HED 122; completion of or current enrollment in HED 123, HED 160, and FAD 150 each with a 2.0 or better.

In order to be able to complete the needed general education requirements by the completion of externship courses (MA 195 and MA 197), may require concurrent enrollment in ENGL& 101, PSYC& 100, or CMST& 220.

Course Outcomes

 

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Assist with basic details of specialty practices
  2. Demonstrate pediatric vital sign proficiency
  3. Demonstrate phlebotomy skills with safety, fluency and accuracy
  4. Perform an ECG
  5. Perform a PFT
  6. Understand basic principles behind insurance and billing
  7. Problem solve when given a unique set of circumstances in patient care
Department Guidelines

Finals skills check off must be successfully passed in order to continue on to MA 195. Minimum final grade of 2.0 in MA 116 is required for entry into MA 195. Healthcare Provider CPR card must be kept current. All immunizations must be completed by the end of this quarter.

PO5 and PO6 should be assessed.
