This course focuses on increasing independence and skill in the performance and management of patient care in the clinical setting under the guidance of a registered nurse, based on nursing theory and skills taught in previous nursing courses.
Prerequisites
CMST& 220 with a minimum 2.0 or above.
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:
- Prioritize information in the clinical setting to communicate in a relevant, accurate, concise, and clear manner. (C)
- Utilize collaboration with staff to initiate communication with healthcare providers (C, MOC)
- Explain the role of the charge nurse in staffing and delegation decision-making. (P.1)
- Develop and implement patient specific teaching plans. (POC.2)
- Utilize culturally competent care in the healthcare setting. (POC.1)
- Prioritize advanced care delivery using critical thinking skills to a group of less stable patients. (MOC)
- Research and present an evidence-based education presentation to a defined nursing unit. (P.2)
