NUR 135: Nursing Skills Laboratory

This course provides for the practice of nursing skills in a controlled setting in order to gain proficiency for delivery of nursing care in the clinical setting (NUR 111). The content is based on theoretical nursing knowledge taught in NUR 110.

Prerequisites

Admission into the Level I ADN Program.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Demonstrate the skills performed by the NAC. (POC.1)
  2. Perform beginning nursing skills such as specimen collection, elimination and bowel care, and pressure ulcer care. (POC.1)
  3. Demonstrate an efficient basic physical assessment of an adult patient/client. (POC.1)
  4. Explain normal and abnormal findings of the physical assessment. (POC.1)
  5. Demonstrate safe medication administration procedures for a variety of routes. (POC.1)
  6. Explain factors which impede or aid in wound healing. (POC.1)
  7. Explain preventative and therapeutic interventions for patient/client care. (POC.1)
