NUR 111: Fundamentals of Nursing Practicum

Practical application in the clinical setting of nursing theory and skills taught in NUR 110 and NUR 135. Practicum focuses on nursing care to a variety of adult and geriatric patients.

Prerequisites

Admission into the Level I ADN nursing program.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Demonstrate a basic head to toe assessment with minimal assistance. (MOC)
  2. Demonstrate the use of the nursing process in providing direct care to an adult and/or elderly adult patient. (MOC)
  3. Demonstrate beginning therapeutic interpersonal communication strategies in the healthcare setting. (C) Identify a cultural or spiritual factor that may impact health care delivery. (POC.1)
  4. Apply beginning skills in patient/client teaching. (POC.2)
  5. Demonstrate behavior consistent with standards of performance appropriate to the Level I ADN student nurse role. (P.1)
  6. Apply critical thinking principles related to nursing care delivery. (MOC)

  2. Demonstrate therapeutic interpersonal communication strategies in the scope of cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory, gastrointestinal, skin/pressure ulcers, and similar focuses
