Introduction to meta-and para-language areas of manual communication to more esoteric ideographic signs reflecting usage among different regional dialects. Difficulties of communication with more severely language-deprived individuals are discussed. Understanding of deaf culture explored and developed. This course is not meant to prepare students as interpreters for the deaf.

ASL& 122 or demonstrated competency

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:
- Demonstrate knowledge of receptive and body language at the advanced proficiency level.
- Produce expressive and body language at the advanced proficiency level.
- Demonstrate understanding of deaf culture.

- Review of ASL vocab and adjectives to describe people
- Describers, classifiers, review of colors
- New vocabulary, negatives and questions, tense indicators
- History of American Sign Language
- Review and practice for proficiency

Quizzes and exams-both written and signed-all questions weighted equally. Grades assigned by percentages according to college standard.
