BIM 131: Records Management

Every business needs to manage its records and information efficiently. This course covers the necessary skills to understand the basics of records management and focuses on managing physical documents and electronic documents using different filing methods.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Set up and manage correspondence storage systems utilizing any of the major methods of filing
    1. Alphabetic
    2. Subject
    3. Numeric
    4. Geographic
  2. Code and retrieve store information
  3. Index, code, and cross-reference to manage data
  4. Manage records, business forms, and correspondence
  5. Explain and apply the processes of managing electronic records
