Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Satisfactorily demonstrate in flight all maneuvers required in the FAA commercial pilot (airplane single engine land) practical test standards

Course Content Outline
  1. FLIGHT BY REFERENCE TO GROUND OBJECTS
    Objective: The student will improve his/her ability to maneuver the airplane accurately while dividing attention between the flight path and selected points on the ground.
  2. REVIEW COMMERCIAL PILOT OPERATIONS
    Objective: The student shall practice various pilot operations solo in preparation for the final stage check, with special emphasis on operation and maneuvers that proved troublesome on the previous dual flight.
  3. REVIEW OF COMMERCIAL PILOT OPERATIONS
    Objective: Review the various pilot operations in reference to the Commercial Practical Test Standard.
  4. REVIEW COMMERCIAL PILOT OPERATIONS
    Objective: The student shall review the various pilot operations and continue preparation for the FAA Commercial Pilot flight check.
  5. REVIEW COMMERCIAL PILOT OPERATIONS
    Objective: The student shall review or practice those operations or tasks as directed by the instructor.
  6. REVIEW COMMERCIAL PILOT OPERATIONS
    Objective: The student shall practice those operations assigned by the instructor.
  7. SIMULATOR: ILS APPROACHES
    Objective: The student shall practice ILS approaches to gain further proficiency, and review selected maneuvers.
  8. SIMULATOR: VOR, NDB, AND ILS APPROACHES
    Objective: The student shall review the various approaches to maintain proficiency.
  9. SIMULATOR: REVIEW OF INSTRUMENT WORK
    Objective: The student shall practice instrument procedures as assigned by the instructor, to maintain proficiency.
  10. LONG COMMERCIAL 250 MILE SOLO CROSS-COUNTRY (if this requirement has been flown--select a route that will complete the course cross-country hour minimums-35 hours).
    Objective: In accordance with FAR Part 141 Appendix D. The student shall make a solo cross-country flight with landings at a minimum of three points; one segment must consist of at least 250 nm straight line distance.
  11. REVIEW OF COMMERCIAL MANEUVERS
    Objective: The student shall review maneuvers in preparation for the upcoming Stage Check.
  12. REVIEW OF TAKE-OFFS AND LANDINGS
    Objective: The student shall complete the final review and skill development in preparation for the stage check.
  13. STAGE 7 FLIGHT CHECK
    Objective: The student shall demonstrate, to the Chief Instructor, Assistant Chief Instructor, or Check Instructor, the skill level necessary to obtain the FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate.

Completion Standards: The student shall demonstrate the required maneuvers within the guidelines specified in the appropriate commercial practical test standards.

Evaluation is by in flight demonstration of proficiency, written test, and completion of home assignments.
