Covers the mathematics elementary teachers are responsible for teaching at K-8 levels, including computing with whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percents; multiplicative comparisons and reasoning; ratio, rates, and proportions; negative numbers; algebra and graphing; relationships between time, distance and rate; patterns and functions.
Prerequisites
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:
- A basic understanding of numbers and theories, including fractions, decimals, and percents
- Knowledge of ratios, rates, and proportions
- The theory related to negative numbers
- Basic algebraic function and graphing skills
- Critical thought with regard to time, distance, rate, and patterns in the form of applied problems

IO3 Human Relations/Workplace Skills: Students will be able to demonstrate teamwork, ethics, appropriate safety awareness and/or workplace specific skills

At least 70% of the grade will be based on quantifiable work such as exams, homework, research project and quizzes. Up to 30% of the grade may be based, attendance, projects, journal work, etc. at the instructor’s discretion. Grading procedures must be clearly stated in the class syllabus.
