BIM 186: Microsoft Publisher

This course is an in-depth introduction to Microsoft Publisher. This class uses the most current version of Microsoft Office for Windows.  Students will learn to create professional publications and marketing materials such as creating a flyer, publishing a trifold brochure, and designing a newsletter.

Prerequisites

Completion of BIM 110 Microsoft Essentials, BIM 180 Introduction to Microsoft Office, or BIM 181 Introduction to Microsoft Word

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Demonstrate the basics of Publisher
  2. Modify and customize the ribbon of Publisher
  3. Open and modify professional documents
  4. Create professional documents using color and graphics

Department Guidelines

PO5        Students will develop proficient Microsoft Office techniques by creating professional business documents while meeting an 85% competency level

The syllabus must contain evaluation/grading guidelines, class environment/expectations/rules, course learning outcomes, and a disability services statement. A schedule must be provided to students that contains content covered (text chapters, topics, etc.), tentative test dates (to include final date/time). If an LMS or similar site is used for the course, it must be created following the Quality Matters (QM) principals outlined in the QM workbook questions. These documents should be reviewed with the BIM instructor at least two weeks prior to class start.
