MGMT 440: Operations Management

This course examines the concepts for designing, planning, and improving service through application of operations management. Students will learn to evaluate the operational decision-making management techniques used to improve processes and productivity in organizations. Topics include quality control, forecasting, workflow processes and lean manufacturing, and inventory management.

Prerequisites

Acceptance into the Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Management program.
Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Identify and recommend concepts for designing, planning, and improving production processes
  2. Explain and evaluate operational decision-making
  3. Explore management techniques used to improve processes and productivity in organizations
  4. Define and discuss quality control
  5. Analyze the relationships among product demand, workflow process and forecasting
  6. Explain basic lean manufacturing principles
  7. Select and apply inventory management tools and philosophies

Department Guidelines

The class syllabus must contain all elements as described in the Syllabus Checklist. A class schedule must be provided to students that contains content covered (text chapters, topics, etc.) and tentative test/project dates (to include final date/time). The work in this course will be primarily project-based.

PO5: Identify the significance of and key decisions in the operations management function, and quality management/quality control methods.
