AMT 249: AMT Motors, Generators, and Alternators

This course contains FAA curriculum Knowledge and Risk Assessment requirements from the Mechanics ACS for both Airframe (AM.II) and Powerplant (AM.III) Certificate of Completion. Students will develop an understanding of the operation of generators, alternators, DC motors, and AC motors, and their repair and overhaul.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following Knowledge or Risks associated with airframe and engine electrical components:

  1. Identify electric motors and power generating components.
  2. Describe the theory of operation for each type of device.
  3. Understand the differences of Alternating Current and Direct Current devices.
  4. Overhaul and inspection requirements for motors, generators, and alternators.
  5. Recognize the hazards when working on high energy electrical circuits.
