AMT 213: Reciprocating Engine Induction, Cooling, and Exhaust

Credits 3 Lecture Hours 11 Lab Hours 44

This course explains reciprocating (piston) aircraft engine Induction, Exhaust, and Cooling systems. During this class they will learn about different types of each system including how they function, inspected, and maintained.

Quarters Offered
Fall,
Winter,
Spring
Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

1.        Explain the theory and function of Reciprocating Engine Induction, Exhaust, and Cooling Systems

2.       Identify, inspect, and maintain all Induction system components including carb heat, alternate air, manifold pressure sensors, carb icing sensors, superchargers, turbochargers, and turbocharger controllers.

3.       Identify, inspect, and maintain all exhaust system components including collector/stack systems, mufflers, cabin heat exchangers, exhaust augmenters, wastegates, turbochargers, and power recovery turbine systems

4.       Identify, inspect, and maintain all cooling system components including cylinders, baffling, cowl flaps, liquid cooling, and oil cooler inlets.

Program Outcomes

PO4 Applies to this course: Students will be able to identify and explain FAA rules/regulations, as well as describe, identify components of, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of airframe and powerplant systems.

Institutional Outcomes

IO1 Communication:

Students will be able to identify and explain a variety of airframe and/or powerplant systems and components as evaluated by the completion of the FAA written, oral and practical exams
