This course introduces the student to the aircraft, its flight manual, the basic federal aviation regulations, elementary principles of flight, aircraft operation, and BBCC flight rules. This course starts the week prior to the normal class starting date. All students accepted and alternates must attend this course. Pre-program counseling is done at this time, and flight training is started.

Prerequisites

Accepted flight student status.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Demonstrate, by passing a written test, an understanding of basic aerodynamics, control function, systems operation, safety procedures, general department operating procedures, FAR's pertinent to student solo flight, airport traffic patterns, and airport runway and taxiing layout.

One final comprehensive written test will be given upon course completion.

Grades will be earned in accordance with the following standardized table as adjusted between all class sections. Note *70% is lowest passing grade.
