Advanced oil painting is an emphasis upon the students artistic growth and the development of his or her own style and voice using oil painting techniques and materials.

Prerequisites

ART 231 and 232 or instructor permission.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of color mixing.
  2. Apply basic elements of design principles to oil painting.
  3. Include content or message in the paintings.
  4. Develop a voice through the making of a series of paintings.
Course Content Outline
With instructor’s input, the student will develop projects that address painting skills and methods. The projects will consist of a series of paintings with common themes or focus to develop a student’s own style or voice.
  1. Preparation for painting
    1. Stretching a canvas
    2. Priming a canvas
    3. Develop sketches and ideas for paintings
  2. Participate in peer review of paintings
