ART 231 or instructor permission.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of color mixing.
  2. Apply basic elements of design principles to oil painting.
  3. Include content or message in the paintings.
Course Content Outline
  1. Preparation for painting
    1. Stretching a canvas
    2. Priming a canvas with gesso
    3. Develop sketches and compositions for paintings
  2. Work from real objects or reference photos
  3. Participate in peer review of paintings
