Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or skills:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of color mixing.
  2. Apply basic elements of design principles to oil painting.
  3. Demonstrate basic techniques of oil medium such as
    1. Brush work
    2. Painting with knife and brush
    3. Dry brush technique
    4. Texture

  1. Preparation for painting
    1. Stretching a canvas
    2. Priming a canvas with gesso
    3. Develop sketches and compositions for paintings
  2. Work from still life
  3. Work from photo
  4. Participate in peer review of paintings
